OSCE
AGENDA
Formulating feasible solutions to the situation in Kosovo
About Committee
Under the motto, ‘Dialogue, Ownership, Responsibility’ The Organisation of Security and Co-operation in Europe or the OSCE, is an intergovernmental body that focuses on security-related issues and promotes cooperation among participating states which include countries in North America, Europe and Asia. The OSCE emphasises on comprehensive security, human rights and conflict prevention with the aim of preventing conflicts and attaining stability and long-term resolutions in the Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian regions.
Amidst the rugged landscape of the Balkans lies Kosovo, a region steeped in history and imbued in complexity. The Kosovo Crisis escalated in the late 20th century, a tumultuous period marked by ethnic tensions, political upheaval and external intervention. At the heart of the conflict is the struggle for autonomy and identity, an identity that will belong to you, delegates.
The freeze date of this committee marks a pivotal moment in Europe’s history, as the region grapples with the devastating consequences of military intervention, geopolitical tensions and a deepening humanitarian crisis. With lives hanging in the balance, the freeze date further emphasises the impact of the NATO airstrikes, a significant event in the region during this time, aimed at protecting civilians, but unleashing a cascade of consequences.
Against this background of chaos and uncertainty, the OSCE committee is tasked with navigating the complexities of conflict reconstruction, reconciliation and humanitarian assistance. As delegates of this committee, you are called upon to rise to the occasion and confront the daunting challenges before us with a firm resolve and a drive for diplomacy.
Delegates, this committee belongs to you and it depends on you to shape the future of this land- a land seeped in conflict, but, with a hope for peace, perserverance and presidium. This committee serves as a beacon of hope in a region plagued by turmoil and as the legacy of this crisis endures, it makes you, the delegates, the region’s only hope in its quest for stability, reconciliation and self-determination.

Chairpersons' Address
Greetings Delegates!
As your chairpersons, it gives us immense pleasure to welcome you to the Organisation of Security and Co- operation in Europe, 1999 of LMC MUN 2024. Delegates, as we enter into a mode of crisis, you are expected to be alert throughout committee, be it engaging in constructive debate, finely honed paperwork and engaging communiques to benefit the situation at hand. This committee will be dynamic, rigorous and will test your power of negotiation, decision-making, lobbying and creativity as you are given the chance to change the course of history.
If you see someone being either extremely energetic or extremely sleep deprived, there is no in between, with thousands of files in her hand, rest assured you’ve spotted Akanksha Panda. Akanksha is a passionate orator, debater, political science and english literature freak and a 12th grade humanities student. Most (if not always) she can be found gossiping in her class or sleeping through her classes while also simultaneously scoring the highest in all her subjects (well, except for math of course). An ‘emotionally available’ all-rounder, she (quite literally) breaks a leg in and for everything she does, be it on the track or on the podium, off stage or on stage. A perfectionist yet a procrastinator, you’ll find her doing every single thing the school has to offer which is why she claims to have no social life outside school except attending the once in a blue moon party (by blackmailing). Give her brownies and cheese pasta or just coffee (with mandatory extra sugar and hazelnuts) from Starbucks and watch her talk about the stress she voluntarily takes or the bad decisions she makes for hours. ‘Too nice to even hurt a fly’, as her juniors describe her, she will make sure to make you have the most fun experience this conference!
Quite the contrary, if you see someone anywhere except her classroom, you’ve spotted Navya Bhardwaj. Navya is a 12th grade commerce student and a law aspirant which is probably why you will find her binge- watching Suits but barely see her do her CLAT homework except on the weekends of course. Navya is the epitome of a perfect work-life balance as you see her party till 3 am on Sundays only to show up with the best research, completed assignments and accumulated energy (still don’t know where she gets that from) on a Monday morning. She is the life of the party as well as the secretariat but beware of her lingo (you will see in committee) as by the end of the three days of the conference, you will find yourself talking just the way Navya does. If not talking non-stop about her love for gossiping or Gossip Girl, you will find her in the science and humanities classrooms trying to debate why commerce is superior to the both. A professional gaslighter (something she has acquired through MUN), the It Girl and a coffee enthusiast, she is the liveliest person you can be around, ensuring that you have a thrilling three days.
Until May,
Akanksha Panda and Navya Bhardwaj,
Chairpersons,
The Organisation of Security and Co-operation in Europe,
La Martiniere Calcutta Model United Nations, 2024.
